Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Satin Finish: A Professional Review

When it comes to high-quality interior paints, Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint consistently stands out as one of the most trusted options among contractors. However, one interesting fact that many people don’t realize is that SuperPaint does not come in an eggshell finish. Instead, it is available in a satin finish—but the final appearance can often look more like an eggshell than a traditional satin.

To understand this better, it’s helpful to compare sheen levels. A satin finish typically has a noticeable, soft gloss to it—similar to what you would see on 99% of all kitchen cabinets. It reflects light moderately and is more washable than a matte or flat finish. Eggshell, on the other hand, is just a bit less shiny and falls right in between a matte and a satin sheen. This subtle difference can make a big impact on walls, especially in living areas or bedrooms, where too much shine can look out of place. That’s why it’s important to note that even though SuperPaint Satin is technically a satin, it visually behaves much more like an eggshell once applied and dried.

This characteristic makes SuperPaint Satin a more versatile choice for residential interiors. While some satin finishes can appear overly glossy—making walls look like they belong in a daycare center or gym locker room—SuperPaint Satin achieves a softer, more refined look that blends well in most living spaces.

SuperPaint Satin Workability

From a performance standpoint, the workability of Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Satin Finish is excellent. When applied over previously painted eggshell walls, the paint glides on smoothly and evenly.   It also t does not drip or splatter when rolled.

SuperPaint Coverage Will Not Dissapoint!

Coverage is another strength of this paint. In most cases, when you are changing colors, two coats are recommended to achieve full, even coverage. However, in testing, when transitioning from a deep midtone color to a muted tone, SuperPaint Satin achieved 100% coverage in just one coat—a rare accomplishment for a mid-tier paint. Interestingly, if the situation were reversed (for example, applying the same muted color over white), two coats would likely be necessary for complete uniformity.

The Washability of Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Satin Finish

SuperPaint Satin Finish washability test

To test the washability of SuperPaint I applied the following products on the wall.

  • Coffe
  • Red wine
  • Catsup
  • Mustard
  • Pencil

After 24 hours, I cleaned the wall with Krud Kutter and a bleach-and-water solution.  The results were excellent!  SuperPaint Satin held stains and showed no damage.

The washability of SuperPaint Satin finish is excellent.  All stains were removed 100%.  Furthermore, there was no barnishing or damage done to the paint surface after cleaning.

Costs & Conclusion

SuperPaint is an expensive mid-grade paint.  As of November 2025, it retails for 76.00.  At the same time, contractors enjoy a much lower cost, closer to $36.00 per gallon.

Overall, Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint Satin Finish delivers impressive performance and a refined aesthetic. Its workability, coverage, and soft, eggshell-like sheen make it a dependable and attractive choice for both professionals and discerning homeowners looking for durability without excessive gloss.
