Are There Official Pickleball Colors?

Pickleball court painting is typically done in either green or blue, but they don’t have to be.

According to USA Pickleball, there are no wrong color choices, but there are a few things to consider.  Lighter colors will absorb less heat.  While darker colors can make winter pickleball warmer and melt snow faster.

The human eye picks up contrasting colors the best, so avoid colors that are similar to the ball.

Sports Master has an interactive site for designing your pickleball court with different color combinations.

Surface Preparation For Pickleball Court Painting

Before applying the top coats of paint, the flooring needs to be free of cracks and have a consistent level surface.

When preparing to paint a tennis or pickleball court, your first step is to fix any cracks more significant than a hairline crack.   The Acrylic Crack Patch, a highly effective product, is your go-to solution for this task.

Acrylic Crack patch comes in four colors—green, blue, red, and off-white.

Acrylic Crack Patch can fill cracks up to 1″ wide.  Depending on the width, an average gallon bucket will fill approximately 75-150 linear feet of crack.

In addition to repairing cracks and eliminating any hazards, we properly power wash all areas to be painted.

We recommend INSL-X True Flex paint for painting pickleball courts. INSL-X True Grip is a non-slip, water-based acrylic paint for tennis and pickleball courts.

It can be tinted to any of the thousands of Ben Moore colors.  It covers 300 sq. ft. per gallon.

Insl-X True Grip is a 100% emulsified acrylic paint with rubber and fillers that act as shock absorbers.

It dries quickly but needs two coats applied in opposite directions.

The Professional Edge: Why Expert Pickleball Court Surfacing Matters

Investing in a pickleball court is about more than just laying down asphalt; it’s about ensuring long-term playability and vibrant aesthetics. Hiring professionals who specialize in athletic surfacing provides a critical advantage: access to industrial-grade, UV-resistant pigments. These specialized coatings are engineered to resist fading under harsh sun exposure, keeping your court looking brand new for years.

The method of application is just as vital as the paint itself. While DIY projects often rely on rollers—which apply a thin, uneven layer—professionals use a squeegee application technique. This method pulls the material across the surface, resulting in a much thicker, more durable coating. This heavy-duty application creates a superior mechanical bond with the court, providing better traction and a consistent bounce. By choosing expert installation, you ensure a high-performance surface that withstands heavy foot traffic and the elements, protecting your investment for the long haul.

Frequently Asked Questions

QuestionAnswer
Why is a squeegee better than a roller?Rollers leave thin, inconsistent layers. A squeegee forces the material into the pavement pores, creating a thicker, more durable wear surface.
How long does professional paint last? With UV-resistant pigments and proper application, a professional finish can last 5 to 8 years before needing a refresh.
Does the paint affect gameplay?Yes. Professional coatings include specific silica sand aggregates that provide the perfect balance of “grip” and “slip” for player safety.
Will the colors stay bright?Professionals use high-quality acrylic resins designed to resist fading from intense sunlight and weather exposure.
